If you happen to be from a town in the United Kingdom or Ireland you might have found the people from your town can be a little negative towards people from other places.
There is an old joke from the television show The League of Gentlemen that the local shop is a local shop for local people. That joke is funny to so many because in so many of our towns and cities there is a strong feeling and we like the people from where we are from and we don’t like people from other places just as much.
This feeling can be summed up in the phrase, “Are you even from the town?” Breezeway at prince place have heard many times ourselves and always brings a smile to the face, in a Newry T Shirt kind of way.
It is certainly meant as a Jest I’m not in any way to be rude to others from other places. but more as a laugh and ourselves and the Parochial attitudes we can go up with unconsciously.
I have a question for you, “Why do you even care if you are from a town?” Aren’t you just another town over? Do you know that your neighbors and friends all think the same way as well? So if you are from a town, you probably care what your neighbours think of you, right? Or do you not care at all and have no idea what other people think of you?
Are you even from a town? I thought you were born into a city, or in fact, you live in a city, but is that what you think? Are you even from a town, even though it may have nothing to do with you, but you may feel that way because you have never been exposed to the world outside your city?
There is nothing wrong with you feeling this way. You may have a feeling that you are not like everyone else, even though you may be surrounded by your family, friends, co-workers and others who live in a city. You may feel that you do not have the normal everyday person thinking that goes along with being from a town. Do you not understand the concept of being from a town, having a house and having a lawn, running your own car and owning your own business? These are things that you probably never thought you would have and that is okay. It is great to think that you can have everything, but remember you cannot.
