The wit of the Simpsons has spanned many generations, as seen in numerous parodies and meta-quotes on television. A great example is when Homer Simpson said “I’m so glad I don’t have to work anymore” in response to how work is very boring for him. This made many people laugh, especially given that it was Homer’s famous catchphrase from The Simpsons. Yet, there were a number of people who thought it to be one of the worst Simpson quotes ever. The reason for this is because it lacked substance, specifically in the way that the show tries to make you think.

Some examples are when Homer Simpson said that the government is going to have to shut the library down because everyone is reading the same books, which was a reference to President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in the United States.
The most popular theme in all of the Simpsons episodes is the one based around the Great Lakes, and there are several great jokes centered around this. One such example is when the King of the Blues revealed that he was the inspiration behind the national motto “I love you can tell me.” Another is when Lisa Simpson said that she and Mr. Van Pelt would get a makeover, a reference to Homer Simpson’s well-sculpted physique, which is also a common theme in most episodes. Whether these quotes are intended to be serious or not, they are still funny for the people who watch The Simpsons.
